Science Gallery Loyalty Card

An iPhone application providing the means of giving discounts & offers to members. In late 2012, I started work on this new iOS project at X Communications for the Science Gallery. By the time I left in December 2012, UI design had just started following a series of iterations on wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes.

The Client

The Science Gallery is a unique venue in Dublin that hosts a number of exhibitions every year with talks, lectures and workshops on a range of topics from the future of gaming to the future of our species.

The Brief

Create an iPhone app that will bridge a gap between the till system and membership database allowing the venue to give discounts and offers to current members in both the café and shop on site.

The Result

As of the end of 2012, the project was still a work in progress and at the early stages of wireframe and specification.

Process, Challenges & Lessons Learned

After sketching out the workflow and rough ideas with the developer, I formalised them into the following wireframes for presentation to the client alongside details of the workflow and the functional specification.

Customer experience is critical in this project as the staff need a system that operates efficiently with minimal margin for error. Once we have sign-off on the functionality of the app, we will build interactive prototypes and carry out customer testing at the café and shop with the staff to identify any issues and room for improvement.

Customer opens the app & taps 'New Customer' to open the QR code reader. Once scanned, the app instantly displays the status of the customer's membership.

Meanwhile, the customer's ID is being sent to the web server to fetch additional details.

When the app receives data from the server it is displayed and the account can be updated. In this scenario, the custmer has chosen to pay for 3 beverages instead of redeeming the free one available.
